Today has been a very mild and lazy, but at the same time a relatively busy day. I decided to take a break from my college work and just try to plan out the process of doing my second draft. I only got a little done today, but it is a start.
The first step is to organize. I set up a 1 inch binder which will be dedicated fully to this one novel. In here I will be saving and planning out the future developments of the many drafts and the publication steps of my story.
Second step is more difficult then the first. I needed a way to approach this editing process. It isn't like a school paper where you just reread it and make the changes needed along the way. I have 41 chapters and 268 pages to work with. The numbers will change over time, but these are the starting numbers. The approach I took is working with each location within the story. I start with the first location and list the number of chapters it covers. Then I list the goals of this location. What do I want accomplished in this place? What needs to be explained here? What events will unfold here? How will this place impact my characters? I am making the list now and from there I will see what the first draft of the location actually accomplished and then try to work in my other goals that weren't accomplished the first time into the second draft.
That's all for now. Happy Halloween!
