According to Plan

Today has been a very mild and lazy, but at the same time a relatively busy day. I decided to take a break from my college work and just try to plan out the process of doing my second draft. I only got a little done today, but it is a start.

The first step is to organize. I set up a 1 inch binder which will be dedicated fully to this one novel. In here I will be saving and planning out the future developments of the many drafts and the publication steps of my story.

Second step is more difficult then the first. I needed a way to approach this editing process. It isn't like a school paper where you just reread it and make the changes needed along the way. I have 41 chapters and 268 pages to work with. The numbers will change over time, but these are the starting numbers. The approach I took is working with each location within the story. I start with the first location and list the number of chapters it covers. Then I list the goals of this location. What do I want accomplished in this place? What needs to be explained here? What events will unfold here? How will this place impact my characters? I am making the list now and from there I will see what the first draft of the location actually accomplished and then try to work in my other goals that weren't accomplished the first time into the second draft.

That's all for now. Happy Halloween!

Save and Protect

One valuable lesson I have learned pretty quickly is the value of saving and protecting your work. My laptop Xena has been failing me for sometime, but I am able to pull through. My family and I decided I should get an Apple laptop instead of Dell and Microsoft. So today I quickly saved my manuscript and all my college work to a USB. Always save and protect the work especially when working on a computer because your beautiful piece of work can vanish with cases of viruses, computer crashing, freezing up, and even more just getting shot like my Xena is doing.

The Beginning of My Journey

Today this day of October 19th 2012 I have finished the first draft of my debut novel. This novel is titled, The Legend of Artemis Rose: The Temple of Fire. It is a fantasy novel combing many elements of commonly known fairy tales with the epic scale fantasy natures today's society and culture is familiar with. It is the first book of a series of seven. I will not say much more than this about the novel and the series. The plot and all the rest of the story will remain a secret.

I am starting this post not only to advertise my work as it proceeds to publication, but to simply share my publishing journey from today the finishing of the first draft to the point it reaches the shelves of every bookstore in the United States. This I post not only for my own benefit, but for others who wish to embark on a similar journey. So my journey begins today with this first official post.
